The Shire of Dark River Presents ROM Rats at the Camelot Campground

Reservations Camping Fee is per Tent. Camping both nights will be $25; camping one night will be $15. Fee includes site fees for everyone in tent. Non Camping Fee would be $3 per day. Non Member Fee $3 Children 10 and under are free. We are doing pre-registration for the tent camping.

Dining: There will be a lunch available for $3.00 and a Pub Feast for $5.00. The Pub will hearty Stews, Bread, Cheese, Herb Butter, and Hedgehog Cake. We are asking people to bring a dish to share  If there are four of you eating please bring enough food for four servings.   

The Days Activites include: Heavy Weapons, Fencing, a Rom Garb Contest, Garb a Stuffed Animal, A Story Telling Contest with Tales of the Great Rom Rat, Hand-kissing Contest.

There will be a Silent Auction.  So far we have a very nice knife, material and trim, a lovely mug, a pen/ink well and a set of wonderful napkins.  No merchant fee if they donate an item to the silent auction. ROM Rats Classes Times and Places will be posted at Trolls.
Two classes will be taught by Lady Katta ~ What it means to be Rom & Rom Superstitions. Lady Katta has done detailed research into the world of the Rom and the life they lead. Great classes if you intend to have a Rom or Gypsy persona.

Lord Aaron will be teaching a class in feast gear forging (yes he is bringing the forge). Class is open to four students. Please wear natural fiber clothing and closed toe shoes. Eye protection is provided. Class will be held in the afternoon.  Lord Aaron may also have some hand forged items for sale. 

Cast Iron Firepit Cooking Class will be taught by THL Annyse Lionstone. Learn to care for your cast iron and how to use it when cooking at events. We will be baking bread, and making a pepper dish to be served at feast.  Annyse will have some cookbooks for sale at class.

Common Embroidery Techniques. Supplies will be provided to try some of the more common stitches.
 This Class is being taught by Dark Rivers Minister of Arts the Lady Ysabel d'Autun.

Rhythm & Dance is a two part class with the Rhythm taught by Lady Mellilah and the Dance taught by Lady Ynes. Special Needs: We have a very small refrigerator on site if anyone needs to have medication in a cold environment. The area is a little rough so wheel chairs are going to need a little bit of extra help, it’s still a pretty accessible site, mostly flat with a smooth enough roadway which is not paved. If anyone needs any help please contact Lady Annyse or Trolls for information. There will be a food list available on site for anyone wishing to check on food allergies.

Directions to the site: Camp is located two miles from exit 11A, I-280, Rock Island, Illinois. Traveling on I-80 east or west take I-280 bypass to exit 11A, (US Rt. 92) and proceed to traffic signal one mile. Turn left at light onto 78th Avenue West (Andalusia Road) proceed one mile to the KOA entrance on left. Look for large KOA sign at entrance.Coming from Chicago area on I-88? At junction of I-88 and I-80 take I-80 east about 5 miles to I-280 west. Follow I-280 to exit 11A (after the airport exit) and proceed per above instructions.Coming on I-74? Take I-280 west and proceed to exit 11A.

Getting to the SCA part of the Campground: Once you have found the Camelot Campground you will need to find the SCA inside this gated community. Pull up to the gate and press the intercom button and identify yourself as SCA. They will open the gate. Once through the gate turn to you left and follow the road around to the SCA area. You will pass behind the pool and bathhouse. Trolls will be set up at the beginning of our area. Pull your car off to one side and please register. (Not unlike Pennsic). You will be assigned a tent area. Please unload your stuff and move your car to one of the designated parking areas. There is a parking area just before our site and we are letting people park at the far end of the tent area.  See Map below
